As warfare becomes increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, drones, surveillance technologies and digital platforms, understanding how these systems affect civilians has never been more important.
On 11 July, SOAS University of London will host our Investigating the Military-Technological Complex, a free one-day seminar designed for students, early-career journalists, researchers and anyone interested in holding power to account during armed conflict.
The event will bring together Guardian investigations correspondent Harry Davies, Professor Justin Schlosberg, Iraq Body Count researcher Dr Lily Hamourtziadou and King’s College London lecturer Dr David Young as well as CHRR’s Dr Iain Overton.
Throughout the day, participants will examine how emerging military technologies are transforming warfare, learn investigative techniques for exposing civilian harm, and explore the legal, ethical and political challenges surrounding accountability in modern conflict. The seminar is organised – in conjunction with CHRR – by the SOAS MA Global Journalism programme and offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from leading experts in investigative journalism, human rights research, digital investigations and conflict reporting.
